SC19, SC19A and SC19B Tests The determination of metal area at MCA Services is undertaken by carbon monoxide (CO) chemisorption. The three tests available are differentiated by the pre-reduction applied: SC19 test: Pre-reduction at ambient temperature SC19A test: Pre-reduction up to 500 °C SC19B test: Pre-reduction above 500 °C It is also possible
to undertake metal area measurements through monitoring the
chemisorption of alternative adsorbate gases, for example O2
or N2O.
Generally, these techniques are highly specific to the sample material and therefore the choice of pre-reducing conditions and the nature of the adsorbate applied will be dependent on the sample. The analytical team at MCA Services have great experience in the application of these techniques and will be happy to discuss individual requirements and the possible application of these tests to specific samples.
